M. lax falls to UMass in rainy-day disappointment

No. 18 Massachusetts won a battle of momentum shifts with the No. 15 men’s lacrosse team, 11–10, on a rain-soaked Tuesday afternoon. After twice being on the wrong end of one-goal games against the Bears in the past two years, the Minutemen walked off Meister-Kavan Field victorious in the old rivals’ 45th meeting.

Many things rode on Saturday’s men’s lacrosse game between 11th-ranked Harvard and 16th-ranked Brown. There was a chance to start the Ivy season with a win. A chance to move up in the national rankings. And of course, a chance to taste sweet victory over an archrival. In what has become one of the top lacrosse rivalries in the nation, Bruno earned bragging rights with a 13–11 victory over the Crimson at Harvard Stadium.

With the clock ticking down in the last minute, the women’s lacrosse team was tied at seven. Brown got the ball, approached the goal and a foul was called, giving the Bears a penalty shot. But Yale’s goalie saved it and sent it up to her teammates, who had one final shot on goal with nine seconds remaining. It went in.

M. lax shuts down St. Joe’s despite weather

The No. 17 men’s lacrosse team demolished St. Joseph’s, 18-4, on a rainy, windswept Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia to advance to 2-1 on the season, but Head Coach Lars Tiffany ’90 was more pleased with his team’s effort than the large margin of victory.
