On Thayer Street, businesses that stay open watch sales plummet, cut jobs

Earlier this semester, a Monday afternoon on Thayer Street would mean students filling the windows of Blue State and Ceremony Tea, with lines stretching along the counters of Bajas or East Side Pockets. Now, the street is nearly deserted. 

Durk’s Bar-B-Q will move to downtown Providence in the spring, with the hopes of opening their doors again before commencement.

Thayer Street restaurant Durk’s Bar-B-Q closed its doors on Dec. 22, marking the end of the establishment’s three-year run on College Hill.

Shake Shack to open Wednesday, offering new shake flavors, local beer

Shake Shake is set to open on Thayer Street Wednesday at 11 a.m., marking the burger joint’s first location in Rhode Island. The American fast-food chain will be located at 249 Thayer St., across from the Brown Bookstore.

Thayer Street Deli is the second restaurant operated by brothers Franquin, Jose and Arlin Rodezno. The menu offers a wide variety of options, including bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches and home fries.

The Thayer Street Deli opened its doors for the first time Oct. 29, marking a new addition to the array of restaurants and shops that call Thayer Street home. The deli is the third business to hold the 267 Thayer address since August 2017, when UMelt opened its doors, The Herald previously reported.
