Panel, exhibition depicts Brazilian favela life

Images of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro tend to look alike. In a panel Tuesday, video journalist Nadia Sussman observed that the most common photographs of the favelas, or shantytowns, depict “red brick homes stacked on top of one another and hand-strung electrical wires.”

The newly constructed hall provides additional study and social spaces for students and faculty. Meanwhile, the Watson Institute of International and Public Affairs is at the heart of several new University Initiatives, which include an increased emphasis on research.

The Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs opened the doors to Stephen Robert Hall Dec. 10, a new addition meant to facilitate collaborative learning for University community members, according to Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs Director Edward Steinfeld.
