When Professor of Africana Studies Lisa Biggs walked into the Friedman Hall lecture room of her course, AFRI 0300: “Performing Ethnography and the Politics of Culture,” she was met with a surprising sense of anxiety.

In the University’s first full summer semester, faculty look forward to teaching in-person and a semester of mostly first-years.

Faculty react to summer term, express hopes for return to normalcy

The University’s first full summer term in recent history kicked off with the start of virtual classes May 12. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, professors have had to adapt their courses and teaching techniques to online learning via Zoom.

Students, faculty and teaching assistants who wish to do so will have the option to continue learning remotely, despite in-person instruction.

Brown guidelines for Summer 2021 semester

With students returning to campus for the summer semester, the University maintains the importance of following public health guidelines. The summer term will enroll about 2,000 undergraduate students and two groups of pre-college summer program students in June and July.

Online summer courses at the University will proceed as planned. The University will announce a decision about pre-college programs and sports camps which take place later in the summer by May 16.

Brown cancels on-campus summer session courses

The University has canceled all on-campus summer session 2020 courses. The cancellations also include residential summer programs both “on- and off-campus between June 13 and July 6,” which includes pre-college programs that were planned to run during that period.
