As the weather turns colder, signaling an end to the cross country season, the men’s and women’s indoor track teams are busily preparing for competition.
EUGENE, ORE. — Oregon’s Hayward Field is by far the track and field capital of the United States, if not the world. At the self-proclaimed “Tracktown, USA,” Olympians have been born, world records have fallen and, for Craig Kinsley ’11, a Division I national title in the javelin with a throw of 250 feet, 3 inches.
With another meet comes another personal record for standout thrower and quad-captain Danielle Grunloh ’10. Her shot put of 15.93 meters last Sunday at Brown’s Springtime Invitational solidified her place at the top of the Ivy League rankings.
Despite a disappointing finish to the indoor season, the men’s and women’s track and field teams are entering the outdoor season with enthusiasm and high expectations. With key members returning from injury and the return of all three national and nine regional qualifiers from last year, it is easy to see cause for such optimism.
Cross country and track and field Head Coach Craig Lake resigned Feb. 15, in the middle of the indoor track and field season, according to Bob Kenneally ’90, associate athletic director for student services.
