The women’s soccer team took both of its opponents, the University of New Hampshire (4-5-3) and Columbia (6-2-2, 1-0-1 Ivy League), into double overtime this week, with both games ending in draws.
The Bears (4-3-1, 0-1) took on the University of Massachusetts Minutewomen (3-6-0) for the first time in 20 years, pulling away with a 2-1 win. Brown also faced its first Ivy challenge on Sunday afternoon, falling short at Dartmouth, 2-1.
The Bears (3-2-1) had fans on the edge of their seats this week. They took Army (7-2-0) into overtime on Wednesday evening and came out with a 2-1 win. Returning home on Sunday afternoon, their match against Sacred Heart (4-3-2) went into two overtimes, ending in a 0-0 tie.
The women’s soccer team (2-2-0) faced a tough schedule this week, battling two nationally ranked opponents early in the season. But the young squad came away with an upset victory after a hard-fought away loss.
The graduation of eight former players did not faze the women’s soccer team during the opening weekend of the season. After a one-goal loss to Northeastern (3-2) on Friday, the Bears (1-1) came back to dominate Colgate (1-4) on Sunday and took the Dartmouth Nike Classic Title.
After a class of eight seniors graduated last fall, women’s soccer Head Coach Phil Pincince admits he does not quite know what to expect from his fresh-faced squad in the upcoming season.
