Thomas ’21: The wake-up call of the 2018 U.S. Open

There were a lot of storylines that could have been written following the the 2018 U.S. Open Women’s Singles final.

The men’s tennis team opened its Ivy League schedule with a close loss to Harvard Friday. Coming off a victory over Yale, the women’s team hoped to take down the Crimson but were unable to hold them off in a 5-2 loss.

Coming off a spring break victory over the University of California, Davis, the men’s tennis team returned to the Pizzitola Sports Center Friday for its first Ivy League test of the season.

Brown powered to victory against UMass-Amherst to place the team in prime position going into the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship next weekend. The victory was highlighted by a clutch performance by Maddie Stearns ’18.

Tensions mounted Friday as the women’s tennis team persevered through multiple tie-breaks and close doubles matches to defeat the University of Massachusetts at Amherst 5-2.

Ammu Mandalap ’16 returns the ball in a Feb. 20 match, winning 7-6, 6-2 over the University of Rhode Island. The weekend sweep improved the team’s home record to 6-0.
