Safariland Group — a company led by University alum and donor Warren Kanders ’79 P’23 — announced June 9 that it will divest from its Defense Technology and Monadnock divisions, which are responsible for producing crowd-control weapons such as tear gas.

Last July, Brown alum Warren Kanders ’79 P ’23 stepped down as vice chairman of the Whitney Museum of American Art amid a storm of protests by the activist group Decolonize This Place.

As an ex-managing editor of the Brown Daily Herald, it is with great sadness and embarrassment that I read the Sept. 12 op-ed “Warren Kanders still must go” and the validating Editorial Page Board follow-up comment Sept. 23.

Safariland manufactures law enforcement supplies that have reportedly been used on migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.
