All season, the men's basketball team exceeded expectations. Despite the loss of two of the top three scorers in school history, the Bears (14-13, 10-4 Ivy) finished the season tied for second place in the Ivy League and set new school records for consecutive winning seasons and the most wins over a four-year span. And when it came to end-of-year honors in the Ivy League, the Bears once again went above and beyond.
Leading the way was Jason Forte '05, who became the third Brown player ever to be named Ivy League Player of the Year, after Peter Moss '80 and Jim Turner '86. In an exceptional season, Forte became the first Brown player ever to lead the Ivies in points (21.4 per game) and assists (5.79 per game) during the same season, and he was a unanimous selection to the First-Team All-Ivy.
Selected for the All-Ivy Second Team were Patrick Powers '04 and Jamie Kilburn '04. Powers finished the season as the third-leading scorer (18.0 points per game) in the Ivy League, while tying Forte for the league lead in steals. Against Columbia University in the Bears' second-to-last game, Powers set a new Brown record for three-pointers in a season, ending with a total of 77.
Kilburn ended his Brown career with the Ivy League's fourth-highest scoring average for a season, notching 15.6 points per game. He also led the league in blocks and field goal percentage, the latter for the second straight season.
Following the loss of three senior starters, the Bears will turn to Forte next season to lead them toward that elusive NCAA berth.
