If you're looking for something new to do that doesn't involve braving the cold - or even moving, for that matter - tune in to WRIB-AM 1220.

Tucked away amongst the shrubbery and abandoned railroad tracks that line the east bank of the Seekonk River, WRIB serves up an eclectic fare of Christian and Spanish-language programming.

Over the years, WRIB has taken many different forms. According to the station's Web site, WRIB broadcast its first show in 1946. Offices were originally located in the Narragansett Hotel in Providence, while the transmitter was stationed in East Providence on the Seekonk. Programming has adapted to different audiences and at times has included everything from rock to country to the current mix of foreign language and religious programming.

Daytime power at the station is 1,000 watts projected from a single 210-foot non-directional tower (by comparison, WBRU's puts out about 20,000 watts). For a small operation, WRIB's coverage is surprisingly good, and the station continues to adapt and persevere despite pressure from bigger chains. The current programming lineup may not be in line with most Brown students' interests, but it is ideal for those who want to brush up on their Spanish skills and stick it to Clear Channel at the same time.
