Police Log: College St. assault, slapping incident reported

The following summaries include all major incidents reported to the Department of Public Safety between Nov. 4 and Nov. 10. The Providence Police Department also responds to incidents occurring off campus. DPS does not divulge information on open cases that are currently under investigation by the department, PPD or the Office of Student Life.

Friday, Nov. 4:12:00 p.m. A complainant reported that seven pairs of dumbbells were stolen from the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center weight room.

3:38 p.m. A student reported that he was confronted by approximately 10 black males while he was walking down College Street in front of the List Art Center. One of the young males punched the student in the nose before the group fled the area. Though there were two witnesses to the simple assault, no suspects were identified.

Sunday, Nov. 6:3:30 a.m. A student reported that his iPod was stolen from the game room in Goddard House.

Monday, Nov. 7:2:00 a.m. A student reported that she was harassed by two intoxicated white males who were running through the hallway of Champlin Hall.

3:46 p.m. A Rhode Island School of Design student reported that three black males verbally threatened him as he walked near the intersection of Prospect and Brown streets. One of the males slapped the student on the right side of his face before fleeing.

9:00 p.m. A student reported that his iPod and charger, valued at $440, were stolen from his vehicle, parked on George Street. The passenger side window of his car was smashed.

11:45 p.m. A student reported that several males in a nearby residence laughed and shouted at her as she walked east on Benevolent Street. She reported that one of the comments was racially biased.

Tuesday, Nov. 8:1:00 p.m. A complainant reported that someone stole a laptop from his office in Barus and Holley. There were no signs of a forced entry.

(Time unspecified) A complainant reported that a dedication plaque on a statue located on the west side of Hope College had been removed.

Wednesday, Nov. 9:12:02 a.m. A student reported that following a verbal dispute during a party at Harambee House, he was struck by approximately four subjects. The subjects, believed to be unaffiliated with the University, fled the area following the altercation. The student was treated by Health Services for his injuries.
