Beirut cancels concert due to singer's illness

The Brown Concert Agency announced Tuesday that indie rock group Beirut has cancelled its concert, whih was slated for tonight in Leung Gallery.

"They cancelled their entire November tour," BCA Co-Chair Joe Posner '07 told The Herald. "The lead singer is in the hospital for illness."

Posner said BCA will offer refunds in the Faunce House post office today for tickets already purchased, noting that approximately 40 tickets had been sold for the event.

BCA has recovered about $5,700 that was to be spent on the show, Posner said. That money may be used to bring smaller acts to campus or go toward co-sponsorships with other organizations or Spring Weekend concerts, he added.

"Luckily the day they cancelled was the last day we could cancel the equipment without paying a fee," Posner said.

The BCA, Brown Student Radio and the College Hill Independent sponsored the Beirut concert.
