Giants pick DeOssie '07 in fourth round of NFL draft

Web Update posted April 29
The New York Giants selected All-American linebacker Zak DeOssie '07 in the fourth round of the National Football League draft Sunday.

DeOssie, the 116th overall pick in the draft, will now play for the same team his father, long snapper Steve DeOssie, played for 15 years ago. The elder DeOssie was part of the Giants' 1990 Super Bowl championship team.

A two-time All-American, a three-time first team All-Ivy selection and a two-time finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the top defensive player in NCAA Division I-AA every year, DeOssie impressed scouts with his size (6'4", 240 lbs.) and speed (a 4.58-second 40-yard dash time). A scouting report on ESPN.com praised DeOssie's speed and athletic ability but also said he needs to work on his instincts and fundamentals.

DeOssie is the first Brown player to be drafted since 1999 when the New England Patriots picked Sean Morey '99, now a wide receiver and special teams player for the Arizona Cardinals.
