Overheard on College Hill

Who do you want to see perform at Spring Weekend?

Michelle Beaulieu '08

I want to see the Spice Girls for Spring Weekend, because I think a big part of Spring Weekend is an escape from college realities, and what better way to do that than with a band straight out of fifth grade. I think part of what makes a good show is audience participation and how much everyone else cares. I don't know anyone who doesn't love the Spice Girls.

I think we should bring Bela Fleck and the Flecktones because they put on an awesome show, and it would be a lot different than the normal indie, hip hop, all the other stuff that we have. It's jazzish, it's a great show.

James Williams '10

I would like to see Lil' John & the East Side Boyz come for Spring Weekend because what he represents is the overall excitement and hyped-up-ness of Spring Weekend. And of course his genre of music is Crunk, and what Crunk is is an amplified version of yourself. Spring Weekend is all about having fun and going crazy, so why would you not have someone that exciting here to put on a show.

Clayton Nelson '09

My choice would be Modest Mouse and Lupe Fiasco. Modest Mouse has a huge repertoire of songs and gives an amazing live show. And Lupe Fiasco is a great hip hop artist. The two are very different. They both released phenomenal albums in the last two years and would be great to have on campus. Spring Weekend is about the coming of spring, it's about the campus livening up again. It's good to have bands that are high energy. It can really inspire people to continue with their spring semester.

I'd say Daft Punk, not really because the music's that great, but just because it would probably be an awesome show. Everyone would be really into it, with lots of dancing, lots of craziness would be going down. I would say high energy shows bring a lot to it. You can appreciate good music and that's great, but Spring Weekend's a time to party and have a good time on College Hill. With the weather starting to get nice, it's time to get out and have a good time, instead of being cloistered in the dorms.
