A lead food service worker for Brown Dining Services, Manuel Gomes, has died at the age of 39, the University learned yesterday.
Gomes’ death was unexpected, wrote Vice President for Public Affairs and University Relations Marisa Quinn in an email to The Herald. She did not confirm further details surrounding the circumstances of his death.
Gomes, who became a University employee in 1994, spent the last 15 years of his career working at the Sharpe Refectory, Quinn wrote.
“He was admired and respected by his colleagues and students alike,” she wrote, adding that University-sponsored support services and counseling are available to Gomes’ friends and colleagues.
University Chaplain Janet Cooper Nelson will hold a “private gathering” in remembrance of Gomes this afternoon with Gomes’ friends and colleagues, Quinn wrote.
Quinn wrote the University extends its “deepest condolences” to Gomes’ family, members of which could not be reached for comment. Dining Services employees declined to comment, citing BDS policy.
