ABOUT THE HERALD





The Brown Daily Herald, Inc. is a financially independent, nonprofit media organization with more than 250 students working across our journalism, business and web divisions to bring you The Brown Daily Herald and post- magazine. The Herald seeks to inform and entertain the Brown community by producing engaging content relevant to our audience across a variety of platforms.





HOW TO JOIN





If you are interested in joining The Herald, please email herald@browndailyherald.com with your name, class year and interests to begin the formal training process.





If you are interested in applying for The Herald's business team, please attend one of our mandatory info sessions taking place in the CareerLAB on Thursday 1/30 at 4 PM or Tuesday 2/4 at 8 PM. No prior business experience is necessary.





Students of all class years are welcome. No prior experience is required — we'll teach you what you need to know!

The Herald is an organization devoted to teaching, and we pride ourselves on our training of staff members and culture of mentorship. We are committed to growing our staff members as people, thinkers and leaders and helping them develop skills they will use for the rest of their lives. Former Heralders currently work at top organizations in media, consulting, finance, tech and the nonprofit sector.

Reporters pursue engaging stories about the University and campus life, Providence and Rhode Island, arts and culture, sports and science and research.





post- writers cover campus and popular culture happenings with snark and humor.





Data journalists and web producerswork together to provide journalism for the 21st century! They support stories by finding and visualizing data online.





Photographers and videographersproduce the images and videos that bring stories to life while learning to use professional-grade equipment and software.





Columnists share their ideas and opinions on topics that affect Brown and the surrounding community.





Illustrators produce images that help bring stories to life.





Designers lay out the print edition of our newspaper and create compelling graphics.





Copy editors review articles for accuracy and clarity, ensuring that we publish nothing but our best work.





OPINIONS





Columnists share their ideas and opinions on topics that affect Brown and the surrounding community.





The Editorial Page Board writes editorials that represent the institutional view of The Herald.





AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT





Web staffers help build and improve The Herald's websites, which get hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Our social media team edits Facebook and Instagram posts to boost our reach and develops our online audience.





BUSINESS





Business associates pitch to local and university clients to sell advertising for print and online, manage The Herald's finances and generate new revenue streams.
