DPSEM apprehended two juveniles inside the residence hall and took a third into custody following a brief foot chase.

On Wednesday night, Brown’s Department of Public Safety and Emergency Management apprehended three masked individuals who matched descriptions of subjects issued in a Timely Warning following a breaking and entering incident on Friday.

The initial alert of the crime occurred after community members reported that laptops and iPads had been stolen from their unlocked dorm rooms in Vartan Gregorian Quadrangle. Three or four subjects were seen fleeing the scene, according to the Saturday alert detailing the events of the night before.

On Wednesday, a community member observed one of the individuals “tailgating into Jameson-Mead residence hall behind a resident,” upon which they alerted DPSEM, according to the department’s most recent update.

Officers from DPSEM “arrived within moments,” the alert added. They apprehended two juveniles inside the residence hall and took a third into custody “following a brief foot pursuit with assistance from the Providence Police.”

DPSEM was unable to capture the fourth individual, who was last seen around the Kennedy Plaza area, the alert stated.

“DPSEM is actively investigating this incident, and the individuals will be charged accordingly,” the Wednesday alert stated. “There are no reports of community members being physically harmed during this encounter.”

“We remain in close coordination with the Providence Police Department to monitor the area, and our officers continue to conduct regular patrols on and around campus,” the alert read.

DPSEM and the Providence Police Department did not immediately respond to The Herald’s requests for comment.
