Junior dies while studying abroad

Keir Marticke '06, who was studying abroad at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, was found dead Monday while visiting Vietnam.

Marticke apparently died in her sleep, according to a campus-wide e-mail sent Monday night by Vice President for Campus Life and Student Services David Greene and Dean of the College Paul Armstrong.

Marticke was on break and traveling with friends at the time of her death, Greene told The Herald Monday night.

The University was unable to confirm the cause of Marticke's death. The University of New South Wales declined to comment for this article.

Marticke attended high school at Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio, and graduated in 2002. She was most currently listed as living in Sewickley Heights, Penn.

Western Reserve Academy Headmaster Henry Flanagan sent an e-mail early Monday evening notifying the Western Reserve community of Marticke's death.

Marticke played lacrosse for Brown, but she was sidelined by injuries and unable to compete last year, according to the Brown Athletics web site. She was concentrating in neuroscience.

A memorial service will be held later this month in Hudson. Greene said he did not know if family members were planning a similar service at Brown.
