Dems host marriage equality conference

College Democrats from Providence College, Salve Regina University, Roger Williams University and the University of Rhode Island participated in the Marriage Equality Conference hosted by the Brown Democrats in Smith-Buonanno Sunday. The conference gave young Rhode Island Democrats an opportunity to network and learn how to lobby at the State House for gay marriage legislation. Speakers at the conference included same-gender couples who have been married in Massachusetts as well as lobbyists and legislators who shared their experiences working at the State House. Students above browse the "Picture Equality" exhibit, which presented over 200 photographs of Rhode Island citizens who support gay marriage legislation. Conference attendees had their photographs taken to add to the display, in hopes of eventually displaying 1400 supporters from the state.
