Nozaki M.A.T. '89 appointed Swearer Center director

Roger Nozaki M.A.T. '89, currently the executive director of the General Electric Foundation, has been named director of the Howard R. Swearer Center for Public Service, the University announced in a press release Monday.

Nozaki, who will begin Nov. 1, currently manages the philanthropic arm of the General Electric Company. He is also the co-founder of the Pathways to College Network, which aims to increase the rate of college attendance among underrepresented students.

In addition to receiving his master's in teaching from Brown, Nozaki graduated from Princeton Univeristy cum laude and has done graduate work at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.

Nozaki has worked at the Swearer Center before - as a graduate student, he had a proctorship that focused on faculty involvement in public service.

Peter Hocking, the current director of the Swearer Center, said in March that he would leave Brown at the end of the academic year to focus on painting and teaching. He is currently an instructor at the Rhode Island School of Design and Goddard College in Vermont.
