WEB UPDATE: CCC holds off on plus/minus vote

Web Update Posted: Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005
The College Curriculum Council took up a proposal to add pluses and minuses to the University grading system during its Dec. 13 meeting but opted to gather more input before voting on the measure.

"We decided to pursue more discussion with faculty and students next semester," said CCC member Freya Zaheer '06.

The Herald reported Dec. 6 that the CCC might vote to recommend the proposal to the Faculty Executive Committee at the meeting. But Zaheer said that was just a tentative plan, and that everyone at the meeting was willing to push back the vote to allow more people to voice their opinions.

At the meeting, members of the Undergraduate Council of Students presented a resolution calling for the CCC to delay voting on the proposal.

In an e-mail to the student body, Communications Chair Tristan Freeman '07 reported that UCS will attempt to gauge student opinion by including a question on plus/minus grading in its WebCT poll next semester.

Although the CCC cannot approve the measure independently, the committee can vote on whether to recommend the proposal to the FEC. If it is approved by the CCC, the FEC would hold its own vote on the proposal.
