Police Log: Curious student escorted from roof of the Rock

The following summary includes all major incidents reported to the Department of Public Safety between April 7 and April 13. It does not include general service and alarm calls. The Providence Police Department also responds to incidents occurring off campus. DPS does not divulge information on open cases that are currently under investigation by the department, the PPD or the Office of Student Life. DPS maintains a daily log of all shift activity and general service calls which can be viewed during business hours at its headquarters, located at 75 Charlesfield St.

Friday, April 7:12:44 p.m. Complainant reported seeing graffiti on another student's door in Jameson House. The student living in the room left at approximately 11:30 p.m. on April 6 and returned at approximately 12:30 a.m. on April 7 to find graffiti on the dry erase board on the door.

Saturday, April 8:(No time specified.) Complainant reported that on April 7 she noticed a scratch running from the hood to the trunk of her car, which she had parked in Lot 58 at approximately 1 p.m. on April 3. There are no witnesses or suspects at this time.

2:44 a.m. A DPS officer reported a card access machine in Lot 68 sustained heavy damage. Facilities Management was notified.

Sunday, April 9:2:30 a.m. Complainant reported an unknown female assaulted her at an off-campus establishment on the corner of Thayer and Angell streets. Emergency Medical Services transported the complainant, who sustained minor injuries, to Rhode Island Hospital.

6:25 p.m. Complainant reported his Dell laptop was stolen from his room. A suspect was described as a white male with black hair in a ponytail. Officers searched the area for the suspect in vain.

Monday, April 10:5 p.m. Complainant reported that an Ethernet cord was stolen from a room in Wayland House sometime between 5 p.m. on April 7 and 9 a.m. on April 10. There are no suspects at this time.

Tuesday, April 11:2:58 p.m. Complainant reported that $100 was removed from a secured cabinet in Hillel House sometime between 4 p.m. on April 7 and 9 a.m. on April 10. There are no suspects at this time.

Wednesday, April 12:8:45 a.m. A custodian reported three windows left open in a classroom on the first floor of the Metcalf Research Laboratory on the evening of April 11.

10:45 p.m. Complainant reported that his laptop was missing from his friend's residence on Williams Street. PPD detectives are investigating the incident.

Thursday, April 13:2:40 p.m. DPS officers responded to a report of a student on the roof of the Rockefeller Library. When officers reached the roof, they found the student, who said he accessed the roof out of curiosity, and escorted him from the area without incident. DPS asked Facilities Management to secure the roof hatch.

3:55 p.m. A DPS officer assisted the PPD with a multiple motor vehicle accident on College Street. No injuries were reported.
