Two students robbed Saturday morning

Two male students were robbed within 20 minutes of each other in separate incidents early Saturday morning, according to an e-mail crime alert Chief of Police Mark Porter sent to the Brown community Saturday afternoon.

At 12:45 a.m., a male suspect approached the first student on Benevolent Street near Cooke Street and asked him for the time. He then demanded the student's cell phone. Two men joined the suspect and told the student to empty his pockets. After taking a wallet and cell phone, the suspects fled toward Hope Street.

In the second incident, two men approached a student walking on Waterman Street near Hope Street at 1:03 a.m. Both demanded the student's cell phone, while one brandished a knife. They then fled in a dark, four-door vehicle.

Michelle Nuey, manager of special services at the Department of Public Safety, could not be reached for comment.
