On Feb. 16, 1999:

In preparation for the opening of the Providence Place Mall, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation planned to construct a ramp to ease southbound traffic on Route 95. The procedure was stalled due to a low supply of steel, which was integral to completing the 1,800 foot bridge. The ramp eventually served to redirect drivers onto Providence Place. The project was federally funded and cost around $8 million.

 

On Feb. 16, 1993:

Moving his business from Cranston, Rhode Island, Michael Anthony Cardillo opened up a barbershop in Faunce House for the University community. At the time, Faunce house  also included a candy counter and post office. Melissa Smith, a customer, called Cardillo "very patient" and said students were content with the quality of the service. Cardillo — known as the Faunce House Barber — had previously owned a salon at the University of Rhode Island and planned to have suppliers like Paul Mitchell  come to campus to introduce students to their products.

 

On Feb. 16, 1971:

Faculty members proposed a measure that would allow  faculty who could not attend meetings to vote using absentee ballots . Twelve professors co-sponsored the amendment drafted by former Professor of Engineering William Findley, who sought to increase faculty participation in "policy questions," he said. Some faculty members like former Professor of Biology Frank Rothman disagreed with the measure. "In order to be able to vote intelligently on any issue, it is valuable to hear the debate," he said. Additional debate revolved around the use of secret ballots for public issues beyond appointments.
