Letter: Brown should not stand for intolerance

To the Editor:

In her column ("Defending the right to disagree," April 16), Camille Spencer-Salmon '14 says Brown students' reaction the unbidden provocation by the right-wing, homophobic group that stormed campus last year was "intolerant" and "as oppressive as any hate-peddling group out there."

This is a gross exaggeration of the regrettable minor flaws in the way students responded to impromptu, organized hate speech. Tolerance of intolerance, say what one may, is simply cowardice, and bigoted intruders deserve nothing but contempt, and contempt unalloyed.
