Letter: Paxson should reinstate ROTC on campus

To the Editor:
Start on the right foot, Mrs. President.
I encourage President Christina Paxson to right one of the few wrongs of former president Ruth Simmons' tenure: Allow Reserve Officer Training Corps back on campus. The U.S. Military and President Obama have shown remarkable leadership in revoking "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" by allowing the military to better reflect our diverse population and our proud national history of inclusiveness. Harvard has recently shown similar leadership by supporting the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" decision and allowing ROTC back to Cambridge. Paxson should take the opportunity, early in her tenure, to make this educational commitment to the military. In doing so, she will open another chapter in Brown's own proud history of inclusiveness.
