On Tuesday evening, President Christina Paxson  P’19 released a statement reversing a May 28 decision to eliminate the Men’s Track and Field and Cross Country teams as part of the University’s Excellence in Brown Athletics Initiative, which demoted 11 varsity teams to club status.

Peter Litsky ’20 closed out his senior season on a hot streak, winning his final eight completed singles matches and leading the men’s tennis team to victories against Yale, Michigan State University and Boston College.

At the close of her sophomore year, lacrosse player Sophia DeRosa '22 stood fourth in assists and second in goals, shots and shots on goal.

Sophia DeRosa ’22 was scorching her sophomore campaign as an attacker and assistant team captain on the women’s lacrosse team when the COVID-19 pandemic brought the season to an abrupt end.

Arlene Gorton ’52, namesake of the Arlene Gorton ’52 Cup for sportsmanship and fair play in female varsity athletics, passed away from natural causes January 3 at her home in East Providence.

After falling behind three goals to none early in their matchup against Dartmouth, the women’s lacrosse team recovered to take a 6-5 lead into halftime. But the Big Green fought back to earn the  victory on a game-winning goal in sudden death overtime.

Brown (2-2, 0-1 Ivy) took on No. 16 Dartmouth (3-0, 1-0 Ivy) in its first conference game of the season Saturday, ultimately falling by one point in a nail-bitingly close matchup in which the teams were tied seven times before entering overtime.

Katie Klein ’22, an attacker, led the team in scoring with 54 successful shots and came third in opponent ejections drawn at 31.

Katie Klein ’22 helped the women’s water polo team achieve five victories over the weekend in their first tournament of the season. She converted 12 goals in six games while guiding her team to a 5-1 record, with the only loss coming to No. 18 Wagner College.

Cameron Daly ’20 previously has competed at the NCAA Pre-National Invitational and the Ivy League Outdoor Track & Field Championships.


Daly ’20 breaks University record in 5000-meter race

Cameron Daly ’20 broke the University record for the 5000-meter track and field event at the Boston University Terrier Invitational and Columbia Challenge this weekend. His time of 14:00.31 beat the 15-year-old record by over seven seconds and his own personal best by over nine seconds.

Bruno outshot the Hawks 39-22 in Saturday’s matchup, which went into a five-minute overtime period but resulted in a 3-3 tie.


Women’s hockey completes 1-0-1 weekend at home against St. Anselm

The Bears came away with a victory against St. Anselm College Friday in a 1-0 shutout before tying the Hawks 3-3 Saturday.

Trevor Labuda ’22 led the men’s swimming and diving team to victory against Columbia this weekend with a record-breaking 3-meter dive. Labuda’s 354.00 points broke the program best of 351.05 that was set in 1989.
