Students express concerns about returning to campus in UCS pre-reopening decision poll

The Undergraduate Council of Students’ pre-reopening decision poll revealed the majority of students surveyed are concerned about aspects of campus life as they prepare to return to College Hill in the fall.

The Undergraduate Council of Students voted by a simple majority in support of the Students for Equitable Pandemic Response coalition’s letter.

The Undergraduate Council of Students voted to endorse a call to action letter written by the coalition Students for Equitable Pandemic Response at the last UCS general body meeting of the academic year Wednesday evening.

UCS President William Zhou ’20 helped organize over 150 student body presidents — all eight Ivies included — in calling for employers and graduate programs not to penalize students for their grades this semester.

As part of a coalition which now includes student body presidents from over 150 universities, Undergraduate Council of Students President William Zhou ’20 helped organize two letters calling for flexibility in hiring and program admissions criteria and loosened interstate psychological counseling regulations.

The Undergraduate Council of Students plans to develop a new University committee dedicated to Brown’s impact on and engagement with the wider Providence community.

Due to the sophomore meal plan requirement imposed June 2019, several Environmental Program House members argue that their houses are now unable to meet their mission without more sophomore meal plan exemptions. The University granted eight meal plan exemptions for sophomores in each EPH for the 2020-21 academic year.

Jason Carroll ’21 was elected president of the Undergraduate Council of Students and Akilesh Raman ’22 was elected as chair of the Undergraduate Finance Board in this year’s elections, Elections Board Co-Chairs Alex Song ’20 and Mary Stack ’21 announced in a Zoom video conference open to the student body Monday night.
