Graduation is usually a time for looking ahead.  Trying to find answers in the future is a natural response to the current economic state of the world.

Taking a step back to consider how far we've come, however, also proves instructive — both for individual graduates and the University. "Even the best-laid plans" takes a step back from the economy's effect on Brown, while "A troubled past," a story about Brown's handling of financial problems in four different decades, puts the current crisis in context.
Looking back also shows us what we've accomplished that can help as we move forward. Stories about students' efforts in Katrina and involvement with environmental initiatives show that Brown students have the skills, passion and intellect to get them through difficult times.

We hope you enjoy this retrospection.
