Director of Athletics Jack Hayes will leave his position at the University, effective Feb. 5, to become a senior adviser to Bruin Sports Capital and “pursue new opportunities,” according to a Friday press release.

The statement expressed the teams’ confidence that they can safely conduct spring competition, noting the “plethora of COVID-19 resources” available to Ivy League students.


Lacrosse teams call for opportunity to compete in spring season

The men’s and women’s lacrosse teams released a joint statement Thursday afternoon requesting that the Ivy League allow them to compete this spring.

Humm said he is still unsure what he will do after retirement, but that he hopes to continue playing golf and do volunteer work.

Director of Athletic Communications Chris Humm announced his upcoming retirement after 32 years in the position. His retirement will take effect Dec. 31 and Brown has not yet started searching for a replacement. 

Reaching Ivy League Phase Four, which would permit athletes to participate in limited levels of local competition, will depend on public health conditions and the campus-wide restrictions specific to each Ivy League institution.

After the University announced last month that it would transition 11 varsity sports teams to club status and promote club co-ed sailing and women’s sailing to varsity, an outpouring of support flooded in for the demoted teams.

Monique LeBlanc was named the new head coach of the women’s basketball team Friday. LeBlanc comes to Brown after spending nine years as the head coach at Merrimack College and before that, three seasons as assistant coach at Bucknell University.

Ricky Cabanillas ’23 defeated Matt Swanson of Binghamton and  Matt Kolonia of Bucknell to guarantee a top-eight placement.
