To The Editor:
I found it interesting to read about the lives of twins on campus. I and my identical twin brother, Stephen Margulis ’78 MD’81 both attended Brown University during the nascent period of the Program in Medicine. I would like to highlight an anecdote related to our tenure as undergraduates. We were both enrolled in BIOL 0100: “Living Biology at Brown and Beyond,” taught by Professor of Biology Walter Quevedo in Alumnae Hall. The professor introduced the overall theme of the seminar by calling attention to the incredible biodiversity of the planet. He then stated that every student in the room was unique since no one shared the same genetic code. One of our classmates shouted out that he was wrong since there were identical twins in attendance. The professor then requested that my brother and I leave the lecture hall so that his statement would be valid. We duly complied with his request and exited the room to a round of applause.
